When Queen Rania visited Scotland for the spectacular Edinburgh Tattoo, she used the occasion to catch up with someone who had a formative role in her childhood.

The royal – an alumnus of Kuwait's New English School – had a reunion with her old school teacher.

"All of us have fond memories of a favourite teacher. Mine happens to be Scottish.

So excited to be seeing him soon!" tweeted the 39-year-old before their meeting.

Later Rania – who is now one of the world's most influential women – confirmed that her mentor was as inspirational as ever.

"Mr Dickson was just as I remember: passionate about what he does, enthusiastic, & full of life. I feel so indebted to him".
