Speculation over Cheryl Cole's place as a judge on the US version of X Factor has been rife for weeks.
But it appears Fox TV bosses have too many reservations about casting her in the top job.
Despite her overwhelming success on the UK version, executives have seemingly deemed the singer's Newcastle accent too strong.
It's reported that if viewers can't understand what she is saying, it's a breach of strict US television regulations.
A source said: 'If audiences and contestants can't understand her, it is actually a regulatory offence.'
Her dreams of launching her career stateside aren't completely lost, however, as she has been offered the role of Simon Cowell's helper on the series.
