F1 driver Lewis Hamilton has signed a three-year contract with Mercedes-Benz.
The deal came as a shock to the motorsport world, as Lewis has been partnered with UK-based McLaren for fourteen years.
Rumoured to be worth £61.6 million, the contract also offers a tempting financial incentive.
But sources close to him insist he has switched teams with a view to long-term performance. The driver himself believes Mercedes-Benz "share his passion".
He said: "I am very excited to begin a new chapter racing for the Mercedes team. Mercedes-Benz has such an incredible heritage in motorsport, along with a passion for winning which I share."
The Formula One champion will replace world-renowned racing champion Michael Schumacher in the team, who is expected to retire from racing for the second time.
Lewis' position at McLaren will be taken up by 22-year-old Mexican Sergio Perez.
