Daniel Craig: Stars shouldn't schmooze with politicians

Wednesday December 28, 2011

His alter ego, James Bond, doesn't mince his words, and neither it seems does Daniel Craig.

Following his recent dressing down of the Kardashian clan, the actor has now criticised politicians for spending too much time schmoozing with celebrities.

Speaking to Men's Journal, the star said he considers the culture of politicians courting celebrities to be the legacy of one former PM.

"Tony Blair started it much more than anybody's ever done. 'Go and have tea at 10 Downing Street'" he said. "You are immediately aligning yourself with a political party"

"We're actors, we're artists, we're very nice to each other. They (politicians) will turn around and stab you in the back."

Adding that he thinks actors should generally stay away from politics, he did make an exception when it comes to George Clooney - who is as famous for his keen political consciousness as he is for his screen roles.

"George has his finger on the political pulse. He's one of those guys who can get up and talk, and I don't have that."

"If someone shoves a microphone in your face and says, 'Explain yourself', you have to have a 100 per cent understanding of why you're doing it, and, unless you're 100 per cent, don't do it, let your work speak for itself."
