Robert Downey Jr shows support for Mel Gibson

Proving he's a good friend in times of trouble, Robert Downey Jr has spoken out to defend Mel Gibson over his troubled personal life and career.

The 54-year-old is currently going through a custody battle with his ex-partner and was recently dropped from The Hangover sequel.

"The great thing about Mel is that you know someone for 25 years, whenever someone asks you a question about him in the media it doesn't mean anything," Robert told Hollyscoop.com.

"I just talk to the guy and we have a friendship," he added.

Mel cast Robert in The Singing Detective in 2003, following the Iron Man actor's battle with drug addiction.

Jodie Foster has also recently shown her support for the Braveheart director.

“He’s been an amazing friend, pretty much anyone who will ever meet or has met with or worked with him, adores him and he’s had his friends that surrounded him for a very long time,” she said.
