Monday January 31, 2011

The King's Speech continued its royal progress towards the Oscars with another awards season success for its top draw cast.

Colin Firth took best actor at the Screen Actors Guild awards.

Meanwhile, the drama also won best ensemble cast – the guild's equivalent of best picture.

He paid tribute to his "dream cast", thanking co-stars Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter.

"This is really something", he said.

Geoffrey joked: "It shouldn't be called the SAG Award, it should be called the uplifting award".

The moving film about King George VI's struggle to beat his stammer triumphed over contenders such as Black Swan and The Fighter

Already on a high because of her pregnancy and recent engagement, Black Swan actress Natalie Portman celebrated winning the best actress trophy.
