It's been one of the most on-again off-again relationships in soapland.

But it looks like EastEnders' Ronnie Mitchell and Jack Branning might finally be getting together once and for all.

Just-released stills of one of next week's episodes show Ronnie (Samantha Womack) confronting Jack (Scott Maslen), who's recovering in hospital after being shot in the head, with an engagement ring she's discovered.

Currently waiting to find out if he'll ever walk again, the club owner had been saving the ring for the right moment to propose to his on-off love.

Overcome with emotion, Ronnie says she'll love him however things turn out and promises she'll say yes when he's well enough to get down on one knee.

Whether this really will be it for the couple is hard to say, however.

It's been an incredibly bumpy ride for the pair over the years.

Their relationship has already weathered revelations that Jack fathered Ronnie's sister Roxy's baby and cheated on her with his ex-wife Selina.

More recently, Ronnie has been seen flirting with Jack's doctor and Jack had an affair with Chelsea Fox (Tiana Benjamin).

Viewers will be able to see how their romantic re-encounter unfolds when the episode is screened on BBC1 on Thursday, April 22, at 7.30pm.
