Golden girl Michelle Williams makes an über-glam return to the red carpet

06 SEPTEMBER 2010

She's understandably kept a low profile in the last few years.

But whenever Michelle Williams takes the spotlight, her ethereal beauty and resilient spirit shine through.

The actress was quite literally the golden girl of this year's Venice film festival, showing off a sleek platinum crop at the presentation of her Western Meek's Cutoff.

For her big premiere, Michelle had picked out a breathtakingly ladylike Jason Wu gown, featuring a pussycat bow and crystal-embellished bodice, and a Cecelia python clutch bag.

Michelle, who turns 30 on September 9, accessorised with a dazzling set of Bulgari jewels and vertiginous Louboutin shoes - which meant she had to be helped from her water taxi by several assistants.

The screen heroine has become the darling of the Indie world lately, combining pursuing her career, with her role as a single mother to Matilda, her daughter by her former fiancé Heath Ledger, who died tragically in 2008.

Her latest film is based on the true story of Stephen Meek, a guide who led a group of settlers into the desert only to get lost in an area where there was no water.

According to Variety, Michelle "anchors the ensemble with a performance of fierce grit and unflinching moral strength, staring down Meek (Bruce Greenwood) and firing a rifle with the same bone-deep conviction".
