J Lo and Marc Anthony march to a Latin beat

Arms held aloft in excitement, Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony drew plenty of attention as they led the Puerto Rico Day procession in New York.

Taking to the streets amid a sea of blue, white and red flags, J Lo and Marc - who wore the sash of the parade's grand marshal - were so besieged by well-wishers and paparazzi they required a police escort.

Despite the crush the A-list couple, whose families originally hail from the Caribbean island, seemed thrilled to be taking part in an event Marc described as "a long-standing tradition in my life".

Their good nature was appreciated by fans, many of whom had made a special pilgrimage to see their heroes. "My friends are not going to believe this!" screamed one 16-year-old admirer, who got up at 4am to secure a prime spot.

Appearances like this are evidence that the couple's two-year marriage is going from strength to strength. Just recently the chart-topping Latin artist took out an advertisement in the trade newspaper Variety, congratulating his wife on winning a film award.
