The Queen is expected to speak of her love for Diana, Princess of Wales, when a new memorial fountain in honour of the late Princess is opened in July.
According to reports Her Majesty will make a speech at the event aimed at easing tensions between the Windsor and Spencer households. Princess Diana's brother is due to attend the opening, along with Prince Charles, William and Harry.
The two families have not appeared in public together since Diana's funeral in 1997. In the wake of the troubled royal's death, the Queen was criticised for failing to return to Buckingham Palace from Balmoral, where the family was staying.
Earl Spencer also delivered a thinly-veiled attack on the royals when he spoke at his sister's funeral. But media reports suggest the monarch is hoping to use the forthcoming opening to draw a line under past misunderstandings.
Work on the Diana fountain began last year after a design by American architect Kathryn Gustafson was accepted by the memorial committee. The £3-million granite structure, which is based on a large oval stone ring, is located beside the Serpentine Bridge in Hyde Park. |
