It seems the Danish public has embarked on a love affair with their newest royal couple, if Prince Frederik and Princess Mary's summer tour around the country is any indication.
The newlyweds, who tied the knot in May, were greeted with cheers of adoration from the public on every stop of their four-day trek around Denmark, which began when they arrived on the royal yacht Danneborg in Aarhus earlier this week.
Heartfelt admiration was showered on Australian-born Princess Mary during a visit to an immigrant neighbourhood in Vollsmose, which has a 60 per cent foreign-born population. It is estimated that 2,000 flag-waving wellwishers – approximately one-fifth of the population – turned out to greet the princess and her new husband. "(The visit) was important for the immigrants and refugees… it makes us feel more a part of the Danish population," said local resident Tahir Canbek.
And it wasn't just the public who had affection on their minds as the couple continued their whirlwind agenda throughout the week.
In a gesture that shows the honeymoon has just begun for the princess and princess, Mary shared a smooch with her husband in Aarhus, and grinned broadly as she received a loving kiss on the cheek from him in Odense, home of fairytale author Hans Christian Andersen. |
