The bustling life of London came to a stop for two minutes on Thursday, as people across the nation – and throughout Europe – paid a silent tribute to the victims of last week's bombings in the capital city.

Traffic came to a standstill during the 120-second vigil, as thousands of Londoners quietly took to the streets in memory of those killed and injured in the tragedy one week ago.

Among those paying her respects was the Queen, who stood in silence, alone, in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace.

The midday moment of silence was also observed by the Prince of Wales and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, who interrupted their visit to Pendoylan, near Cardiff, to bow their heads in honour of the victims.

More than 700 people were injured in the July 7 explosions, and the death toll of the horrific attacks now stands at 52.
