Nineteen-year-old Prince Louis of Luxembourg has become Europe's youngest royal parent after his girlfriend Tessy Anthony Hansen gave birth to a baby boy, named Gabriel.

The new arrival, who made his big debut on Sunday, is the first grandchild of 50-year-old Grand Duke Henri and his wife Grand Duchess Maria Teresa.

Newspaper reports in the tiny central European Duchy said that the prince met 20-year-old Tessy during a peacekeeping mission to Kosovo in 2004. Both were working for the Luxembourg army.

As the couple are not married and are unlikely to wed in the immediate future, Gabriel is not an official member of the royal family and will not be included in the line of succession. Louis is third in line to the throne behind his brothers, Guillaume, 23, and 21-year-old Felix, and also has two youngers siblings, 14-year-old Alexandra and Sebastien, 13.

News of the pregnancy came as a shock to Luxembourg's royal watchers but the ducal family have lent their full support to the young parents.
