Ashlee Simpson was born in Texas, and is the younger sister of pop star
Jessica Simpson.
Jessica found fame in the late 1990s and Ashlee became one of her back-up dancers on tour. Jessica and her then-husband Nick Lachey starred in a MTV reality show,
Newlyweds, and Ashlee came to prominence through her inclusion in the show.
By 2003 Ashlee had her own record deal, and was working on her debut album
Autobiography. As an accompaniment to the album,
The Ashlee Simpson Show aimed to create interest in her music by showing the recording process as well as insights into Ashlee's personal life.
The show ran for ten episodes, and by 2004
Autobiography was number one in the US album charts. Following a tour Ashlee began working on her second album
, I Am Me, which also went to number one.
In 2006,
Ashlee took on her first West End stage performance as Roxie Hart in
Chicago. The performance was a hit and she received critical acclaim.
Ashlee married fellow musician Pete Wentz, from the band
Fall Out Boy, in 2008. The pair had one son together, Bronx Mowgli, born in the November of that same year.
In 2014,
Ashlee married Evan Ross, in a bohemian-style ceremony.
