Amal Clooney was a vision in a chocolate-brown gown on Friday, October 3 as she joined husband George Clooney at the Clooney Foundation For Justice's The Albies. Held at The Natural History Museum in London, England, the pair walked the carpet arm in arm, with Amal glowing ahead of the special ceremony that will see the organization honor Gambian women’s and girls’ rights activist Fatou Baldeh; Guatemalan journalist Jose Rubén Zamora; celebrated American newspaper editor Marty Baron of Spotlight fame; and global women and girls champion Melinda French Gates. Ford Foundation president Darren Walker will receive The Albies’ lifetime achievement award for his decades of service to philanthropic and advocacy causes all over the world.
The event was a who's who of A-listers with guests including Meryl Streep, Meg Ryan, Felicity Jones, Jemima Khan, Dame Emma Thompson, Jemma Kidd, Graham Norton, Michaela Jay Rodriguez, Charlotte Tilbury, and Hannah Waddingham. But it was Amal who had everyone talking, as she wore a gorgeous dress that featured ruched detailing to highlight the waist and an elegant off-the-shoulder strap. She wore her luxurious brunette locks in loose waves, and paired the look with a stunning bracelet and chandelier earrings to bring some sparkle to the outfit.
"At The Albies, the sacrifices and courageous commitments to justice and human rights take center stage," Amal and George said after the announcement of the honorees. "This is a celebration of the individuals whose lives and careers have come to embody those values that form the cornerstone of our foundation’s global work."
The Clooney Foundation for Justice wages justice by providing free legal aid in defense of free speech and women’s rights in over 40 countries. Its work has led to dozens of journalists being set free and thousands of women receiving free legal support to defend their rights.
Amal's dress featured dramatic draping along the neckline and midsection that flowed into a floor-sweeping train. She paired the look with gorgeous gold chandelier earrings, a ring stack, a small bronze clutch, and sheer PVC pumps by AQUAZZURA in the same hue as the gown.
Fatou Baldeh, one of this year's honorees, was glowing in her green off-shouder gown.
Fatou is "one of the world’s leading voices on the dangers of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C), which impacts 230 million women globally".
"A survivor herself, she founded Women in Liberation and Leadership (WILL) and was instrumental in advocating against a 2024 effort to overturn The Gambia’s ban on the practice."
Pose actress MJ Rodriguez rocked her twist on the tuxedo for the red carpet, with a sheer shirt featuring floral appliques, and a black overskirt that fell into a long train and also featured the white appliques.
It's been a busy few weeks for Amal and George, as they flew into London from New York City where they attended the Jay Kelly premiere during the 63rd New York Film Festival, turning heads with their coordinated couple style.
At the NYC event, Amal, 47, stunned in a strapless crimson velvet mini dress, featuring a sculpted bodice and a show-stopping floral skirt adorned with voluminous 3D red and yellow blossoms. She paired the eye-catching look with metallic pointed-toe gold heels and a matching velvet clutch.
They have also been preparing for the Albies, their annual awards event, and previously hosted a private dinner at the couple's villa in Lake Como ahead of the big day.
Amal and George launched the Foundation "because we believe in a world where human rights are protected and no one is above the law.” The CFJ continues to work on issues that have long faded from the headlines and look to support survivors of war crimes. The foundation is actively investigating war crimes in Ukraine, monitoring sham trials targeting women and journalists and fighting against a global trend of authoritarianism that seeks to punish those who speak truth to power.
