After being congratulated on the success of the Netflix thriller by Lorraine, Richard said: "The Stranger did really well for them [Netflix] and we're really happy that Stay Close, I think it's number one in 43 countries. But I can't believe there was a Whatsapp group, nobody told me about that."

Lorraine was quick to reply: "Oh no, are you not in the Whatsapp group with all the cast?"

Laughing and shaking his head, Richard responded "No," before Lorraine said: "Seriously? Are you not? Maybe there wasn't a Whatsapp group so let's just forget about that."

Richard revealed that he wasn't involved in the cast Whatsapp group

Following his appearance on Lorraine, Richard took to Twitter to make light of his exclusion from the group. Tagging Lorraine, he wrote: "Thanks for the chat. I’m finding out who was on that #StayClose WhatsApp group right now [laughing face emoji]. In person next time."

Richard stars as Ray in the new mystery drama series, which has been a huge hit with Netflix viewers.

For those who have yet to watch the compelling show, it boasts a star-studded cast which includes Richard alongside Cush Jumbo, James Nesbitt and Sarah Parish. The series is based on the 2012 Harlan Coben novel of the same name and follows a group of people living comfortable lives but hiding dark secrets.

While on the ITV daytime show, Richard also spoke about reuniting with cast members that he'd previously worked with. He said: "Brilliant cast. It was so nice to reconnect with Jimmy after The Hobbit and Jo Joyner after, I think, 17 years ago from North and South, Eddie [Izzard] was a dream and Cush was great to work with. We are so lucky."

"I wanted to work with Sarah Parish for forever so we couldn't stop talking on set," he added.
