George Stephanopoulos is no stranger to politics, having worked as a political advisor in Washington D.C. for many years.

But on Monday's Good Morning America, the TV star caused quite the stir after being asked by guest John Stamos if he could run for president himself!

The fun clip can be viewed below, which saw George simply reply: "Greeks have to stick together!" After the footage was shared on social media, fans were left divided, with many keen on the idea of George running, while others were not so sure!

"He has my vote!" one wrote, while another commented: "My dad thought George Stephanopoulos would run some day!" A third added: "Please run George!"

Opposing comments included: "Stay on GMA George!" and "No please George!"

George is known for making witty remarks on the ABC news show, and has a dry sense of humor. He gets on well with his co-stars, and is one of the longest running anchors alongside Robin Roberts, who both marked working together for 13 years in 2022.

Away from work, the news anchor loves nothing more than spending time with his family. George is married to Ali Wentworth and the couple share two grown-up daughters, Elliott, 21, and Harper, 17.

They became empty nesters earlier in the year when their youngest daughter Harper moved out of the family home to attend university in Nashville.

Ali in particular opened up on social media about how emotional it was for the couple to say goodbye to their youngest child.

"We dropped our baby off at college. Everyone is saying 'she’s ready to launch'! But… I don’t think I’m ready!," she wrote. "I don’t want to stop making pasta with vodka sauce, picking up wet towels, cuddling up to her familiar scent. As Joni Mitchell once wrote - 'the bed’s too big, the frying pan too wide'.

"I know our daughter will thrive. But man, it’s brutal on the parents. If you feel inclined- please send me baked goods. I’ll be under my covers."

The family are incredibly close and Ali previously gave an insight into their home life. Chatting to Harry Connick Jr, she said: "I have two girls. George is the only guy in the house. For some reason, he gets beat up constantly. He is always wrong. He is an idiot. He is a loser, but in a loving way."

Ali and George have been married for 20 years and will be celebrating their wedding anniversary in November. The couple met after being set up on a blind date by mutual friends and it didn't take long for them to get engaged after their whirlwind romance.
