The hunt is on not only for the next James Bond, but for his co-star and romantic lead. Bond Girls are an iconic part of the franchise, initially serving as damsels in distress before becoming Bond's counterpart.

Since the 1960s, the franchise has created several incredible characters, from shell collector Honey Ryder to clairvoyant Solitaire and, more recently, Madeleine Swann, who bore the secret agent's daughter.

The impact being a Bond Girl can have on someone's career has varied, with several becoming successful actresses after breaking onto the scene, while others have struggled to secure future roles.

So, will the next Bond Girl be a widely recognised star like Zendaya or Florence Pugh, or someone currently flying under the radar?

Here's who fans want to see take on the role next…

Sydney is one of the favourites for the role

Sydney Sweeney

Thanks to her gorgeous looks and star roles in the likes of Euphoria and The Housemaid, Sydney is the name on almost everyone's lips when it comes to the next Bond girl. Even Hollywood director Paul Feig is behind the idea, saying the 28-year-old was "hardworking, professional, smart, and savvy".

However, Sydney isn't entirely sold on the idea, noting that she would have "more fun" playing the spy instead. Addressing critics of the idea, one fan said: "Most people have no clue what they're talking about when it comes to her. So many people see her as a ditzy blonde or whatever but she's a quality actor. You just haven't seen her work."

From MJ to Bond Girl?

Zendaya

Sydney isn't the only Euphoria star in the mix, as her co-star Zendaya is also one of the names in the mix. The 29-year-old already has credits in the likes of The Greatest Showman and Marvel's Spider-Man films, and the star could easily hold her own against her male co-star.

One fan enthused: "I see Zendaya as a Bond girl already," while another speculated: "I fully believe Zendaya in particular is guaranteed to be a Bond girl in her career," and a third posted: "Zendaya as a Bond girl…put Pedro [Pascal] in there as a Bond villain ….THE VISION IS CLEAR!"

Marisa is a Brit being tipped for the role

Marisa Abela

Marisa has already starred in spy thriller Black Bag, alongside the likes of Michael Fassbender and Bond star Naomie Harris, but could her next role be in Bond 26? The star is one of the lesser-known stars on the list, with credits including Industry, Rogue Agent and Back to Black, where she played the late Amy Winehouse, but this could be just what producers are looking for.

One fan said of the suggestion: "Marisa Abela would be great. She is great at playing flirty and sexy while also having a layer of total control/understanding/intelligence. Her presence on screen, her voice and her charisma just screams sexy Bond coded character," a second agreed, penning: "I've only ever seen her in Industry but as you said she displays control and intelligence really well on screen."

Might Ana return to the franchise?

Ana de Armas

Ana has already been a Bond Girl, playing the bubbly Paloma in No Time To Die, although her romance with Bond never emerged. The character was a force to be reckoned with, subduing several SPECTRE agents as she and Bond sought to recapture Dr. Valdo Obruchev.

The star was only in the film for a short moment, however, and some fans are hoping that the star might return for the next film. One demanded: "Honestly? Bring back Ana de Armas. Best part of No Time To Die easily," while a second simply said: "Bring back Ana de Armas."

Margaret is now in contention for the role

Margaret Qualley

American actress Margaret got fans speculating that she would be the next Bond girl when she delivered a show-stopping routine for a musical tribute to the franchise at the 97th Academy Awards. For those unfamiliar with her work, the star has acted in the likes of The Leftovers, Maid and The Substance.

One fan mused: "Margaret Qualley has the look for sure, and she could use more good projects on her resume," while a second posited: "Thinking about Margaret Qualley as a Bond Girl and how perfect it would be."
