Welcome to Time For You, HELLO!'s brand new series that asks wellness experts for the one thing they do to boost their mood – take notes!

This week we spoke to nutritionist Rob Hobson about the way he makes time for himself amid his busy career and intense training schedule.

Rob, why is looking after yourself important to you?

"Working for myself is hectic, because I cover every role, from business development to PR, before I even start doing the work I have been contracted to do. It's tricky to take my mind off work, so me-time is crucial.

"I also have a habit of going a little overboard with my training. I work out a lot and like to compete in endurance events, so need to look after my body.

"I do yoga and a lot of stretching, but it doesn’t get those pesky knots out and neither does it give me the time out I need to clear my head of work."

How do you unwind from work – and look after your body?

"I have a massage every month, and I increase it to every fortnight when I'm training for an event.

"Sometimes it's a sports massage but I also have a local Thai massage place I go to where they stretch you and walk all over your back.

"It's quite an indulgence, but I think spending money on your health is a good investment, and while my massages of choice aren't always the most pleasant experiences physically, I do look forward to them.

"I like to see the same person every time I have a massage. I think it's important to build up a good relationship with your therapist so they get to understand your body and you feel completely comfortable.

Rob Hobson has massages to help him unwind

"A massage makes me happy by giving me a little peace of mind, knowing that I am keeping my body well-conditioned rather than pushing it to extremes which has caused me quite a few injuries in the past."

What do you enjoy about your massages?

"My monthly massage is about being able to completely switch off and reduce stress and anxiety levels as well as relieving the pain from training.

"If you are training for an event then I would definitely recommend getting the sports massage. There is only so far you can push your body and it will need conditioning to help prevent injury."
