Back over in Europe, Princess Elisabeth of Belgium and Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands gave us a glimpse into how the next generation of royals will present themselves, with both looking stunning in modern gowns for the Gala dinner at the Grand Ducal Palace during the Abdication of Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg and Accession to the Throne of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Guillaume.

Representing their counties, Elisabeth wore a high-neck column gown with cap sleeves, whie Catharina highlights her waist with a stunning ballgown in emerald green that featured a deep off-shoulder cut.

They were both pictured curtseying to the Grand Duchess Stéphanie de Lannoy and her husband, the new Grand Duke Guillaume.

The House of Orange-Nassau

Today marked a historic day for the Luxembourg royal family as their monarch, Grand Duke Henri, abdicated the throne to his son, Prince Guillaume. Although many monarchies stretch back centuries, Luxembourg's royal family is relatively young, only dating to the 18th century when they were ruled by the Dutch royal house, known as the House of Orange-Nassau.
