She may not officially be a Princess, but Zara Tindall, the daughter of Princess Anne, is set to join forces with Princess Catharina-Amalia and Infanta Elena of Spain, it has been revealed.

The Olympic equestrian, 45, is set to appear at the opening ceremony of the FEI World Equestrian Championships at Allianz Park in Aachen, Germany, on 11 August.

There, Zara will be joined by Catharina-Amalia and Infanta Elena, as historic carriages from three royal stables are set to feature in the evening's programme.

Princess Catharina-Amalia, who is first in line to the Dutch throne, will formally signal the start of the championships, while Elena, Duchess of Lugo, will attend as guest of honour.

Meanwhile, Zara will appear in the opening ceremony of the Championships.

At the event, three royal stables, representing the Netherlands, Denmark and Great Britain, will parade their historic carriages during the ceremony, each serving as a symbol of its respective dynasty.

Shared love of horses

They may be from different royal families, but if one thing is for sure, it's that the trio all have a shared passion for horses.

Zara's adoration for all things equine has been documented throughout he entire life, the mother-of-three winning a silver medal in the 2012 London Olympics for the equestrian eventing team competition.

Princess Catharina has been a devoted equestrian since the age of four. She sadly suffered a serious riding injury in June 2025, requiring surgery for a fractured upper arm after falling from her horse.

Infanta Elena is also an expert in the sport, having trained and competed at national and international levels throughout her career as a rider. She has previously represented Spain at equestrian events in Aachen.

Of the royal attendance, the President of the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein said it was a "great honour."

"The visit of these high-ranking royal guests is a great honour - for the Aachen-Laurensberger Rennverein (ALRV), for the city, and above all for our spectators," she said.

"When traditional royal houses, with their passion for horses, meet the unique atmosphere of Allianz Park, the result is unforgettable imagery. You're not just attending a world-class sporting event - you're experiencing history, emotion, and spine-tingling moments live in the stadium."

The championships continue until August 23. Whether Mrs Tindall's husband, the former England rugby international Mike Tindall, will join her in Aachen has not been confirmed. It is also unclear whether she plans to attend beyond the opening ceremony.

Zara's equine charity efforts

In 2020, Zara became a patron of World Horse Welfare, joining the charity alongside her mother, Princess Anne, who serves as its president.

Back in November, Zara gave an impassioned speech, urging audiences at a conference last November to see "through the horse's eyes."

"I think seeing through their eyes is all about partnership; it's feeling them every day and how different they come out, being receptive to that and working with that," she said.
