I may not know my way around the horse racing world, but I do know a great outfit when I see one. And This Morning's fashion expert Jo Good has just delivered a race-day look that's firmly on my inspiration list.
Reporting live from Goodwood Racecourse, Jo proved why it's considered one of the most chic racing events of the year with her stunning, Grecian-inspired look. And what I love about Jo is that she champions the great British high street with her looks, including her race-day outfit that you can buy at John Lewis.
- This Morning reports live from ladies day at Goodwood on Thursday, 30 July.
- Jo Good, the show's fashion expert, highlights stylish racegoers.
- The 71-year-old wore a beautiful Grecian-inspired dress from FLORERE, available at John Lewis.
Rather than join the flock who have chosen polka dots or florals for the event, Jo proved her fashion prowess with her ochre-coloured maxi.
The 71-year-old fashion expert, who documents her fashion and beauty faves on her Instagram account middleagedminx, turned to FLORERE, a British brand that can be bought via John Lewis.
In fact, Jo's dress is a popular choice at the department store. According to the website, it's been bought in-store in its droves this week.
And it isn't hard to see why. The satin midi dress features an extended shoulder detail, and a flowing skirt that swishes and flows. But it's the deep waist panel that adds a super flattering touch this dress; it acts as a soft corset, covering a large part of the midsection and smooths over the tummy. It also pinches in at the smallest part of your body, creating the most stunning hourglass shape.
Also, who doesn't love a dress where you can wear a bra without the annoyance of bra straps showing or having to opt for a strapless bra?
Finally, the satin finish elevates it further, giving it a super luxurious touch. If like Jo you're on the shorter side, it'll fall to a maxi length but those 5ft3 and over will find it more of a midaxi, falling to the point between the knee and ankle.
Available in sizes 8 - 16, the colour is unusually beautiful too. Ochre is often described as a "deep amber" or "flat gold", and looks beautiful with raffia accessories, gold jewellery or nude shades; Jo wore a pair of Le Specs sunglasses and a gorgeous fascinator for her race-day attire.
Jo, who was the recent guest of honour at HELLO!'s Second Act LIVE podcast recording with Ateh Jewel, spoke about finding her style in her 70s: "I realise now that I've extended my outlook on high-street fashion. I was becoming very very limited in what I would wear... it was all designer labels and everything else ... prepare to take a few risks because fashion has never been so accessible."
Get The Look For Less
Drapery, earthy tones and gold details all make a Grecian-inspired dress a stunning outfit for summer. I found a beautiful khaki sleeveless maxi fitting into the aesthetic at Phase Eight, complete with flattering knot detail at the waist.
Roman has a similar look dress too, for £32, with a crossover waist that skims your tummy and comes in khaki, brown or blue.
Jo's Summer Dresses
I love Jo's style, and ability to find hidden gems on the high street. Case in point? This heatwave-friendly linen shirt dress from White Stuff, on sale for £76.
It's such a great dress for the weather right now, offering a breathable fabric in an easy to wear shirt dress - and it's chambray, so if you're a denim dress fan it'll scratch that itch during the heatwave.
And proving florals are anything but over, Jo found this timeless pink floral angel-sleeve dress at Dorothy Perkins - on sale for £30! That's a high street steal.
