At her heaviest weight, Tammy Slaton tipped the scales at 725 pounds. She was confined to a wheelchair and needed the constant assistance of an oxygen machine.

Now, the 1000-Lb Sisters star looks like a different person after losing a mind-boggling 500 pounds and completely transforming her body and her health

Here's what she looks like today.

Tammy's health concerns were severe

Tammy had a terrifying brush with death which opened her eyes to the fact she needed to make her health a priority.

In 2021, her lungs began to fail and she was placed in a medically induced coma before having an emergency tracheostomy.

She said this caused her to "wise up" to the severity of her situation.

After undergoing a strict 14-month stay in the weight loss rehabilitation facility, Tammy successfully qualified for bariatric surgery in July 2022.

Tammy then had to completely overhaul her relationship with food and keep fit. Going from being entirely wheelchair-bound to walking independently was a huge change. Movement is now factored into her life on a daily basis and she enjoys walking and swimming amongst many other activities.

Her diet had to change drastically too, and Tammy has made her high-protein, low-carb lifestyle stick.

"We grew up with fast food mostly," Tammy said on an episode of their show. "But if we didn’t have fast food, the church would give us food. There were five kids, so our mom worked three jobs."

She added: "I’ve been overweight all my life. Kids in school were very mean. They would push me, call me names. By 20 years old, I weighed about 500 pounds."

Becoming a reality TV star ultimately saved her life

"I was just sitting there watching YouTube videos," she told the outlet. "I was like, 'Why not? We're funny, whatever. Why can’t we do it too?' So, I pitched the idea to her [Amy] and here we are."

When their videos were picked up by executives at TLC, their lives changed.

"At first, they wanted a big YouTuber weight loss show," Amy said. "And then they’d seen us and they were like, 'No, these two need their own show.'"
