Alan Ritchson may be most famously recognized for his imposing 6ft 4 frame, sharp jawline, and no-nonsense presence as the star of Reacher. But in a jaw-dropping new transformation, the action superstar traded his tough-guy aesthetic for a look that left his fans doing a double take.
Taking to Instagram, the star shared a behind-the-scenes preview of an unexpected musical collaboration with Canadian artist SonReal. The 43-year-old actor debuted an unrecognizable makeover complete with a bowl-cut hairstyle and retro oversized glasses.
The reason behind Alan's makeover became clear as he leaned into his eccentrix character. His look was in stark contrast to his hulking, gym-honed physique as he showcased blunt, mushroom-style bangs and thick-rimmed eyewear.
Alan showed off his comedic chops, and appeared to be thoroughly enjoying the shift in personality.
He posed alongside SonReal as they previewed their joint creative project, and Alan had fans and celebrity friends howling in the comments.
"I had to look three times to realize that was actually Jack Reacher!" one fan laughed, while another commented: "The bowl cut and spectacles on a man built like a tank is the comedy content we didn't know we needed."
Returning to his musical roots
While the look was undeniably cheeky, Alan's venture into music isn't entirely unexpected. Long before taking Hollywood by storm in action thrillers, he famously showcased his vocal talents during the third season of American Idol in 2004, where he serenaded judge Paula Abdul. Over the years, he has continued to nurture his passion for songwriting and singing alongside his acting career.
SonReal is known for his quirky, genre-blending tracks and videos, and so it seems the perfect place for Alan to show off his musical abilities alongside his sharp comedic timing.
Alan wants people to see his fun side
Between grueling filming schedules for Reacher, Alan has developed film projects and maintains his intense fitness regime, but always with a cheeky wit and charm.
Before he stepped into action-hero stardom, Alan cemented his status as a comedy standout as a football captain in the sitcom Blue Mountain State.
He also loves to show his silly side on social media whether it is with his co-stars or his family.
Is Alan Ritchson married?
Alan recently announced his divorce from his wife of 20 years, who was his high school sweetheart.
He and Cat share three sons but after a rollercoaster journey together, they have parted ways.
"After twenty years together, Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way," read a statement shared on both of their social media accounts on September, 12, 2026. "We grew up together. We built a life and a family together. And we are raising three incredible boys who will always be the center of our world.
"The best gift we can give one another – and our boys – right now is friendship, grace and a commitment to becoming the strongest co-parents we can be. We also want to give each other room to grow into the people we are becoming," they continued, sharing that "nothing can diminish" the years they spent together.
