'Prairie' actress Melissa Gilbert divorces

After 16 years as a married couple Melissa Gilbert has separated from her husband Bruce Boxleitner.

The Little House on the Prairie star wed Bruce in 1995 and the couple have one son - 15-year-old Michael - together. The couple also have three other sons from both their previous marriages.

In a statement the 46-year-old said: "We have loved each other for a very long time and we share four incredible sons together."

"On behalf of our family we ask to be allowed our privacy during this very difficult time."
