Private education for state-schooled Stella McCartney's child

Like her brother and sisters Paul and Linda McCartney's daughter Stella attended a state school in East Sussex, in line with her parents' intention they should receive as normal an upbringing as possible. When it comes to educating her own three children with British publisher Alasdhair Willis the fashion designer has a different approach planned.

The 37-year-old has apparently enrolled her middle child, two-year-old daughter Bailey, at a £3,600-a-term girls' school in West London. She's also reportedly considering placing her eldest, son Miller, in one of London's £4,000-a-year Steiner schools. The alternative schools emphasise art and creativity, with reading not taught until pupils are aged seven.

Stella, pictured at the opening of an Italian art centre this week, says state school wasn't necessarily the best option for the offspring of a famous parents.

"Dad thought sending me to state school was character-building," she explains, "but I was bullied."
