Royal jewel: Duchess' wedding dress 'raises £10m'

Wednesday October 5, 2011

The exhibition featuring the Duchess of Cambridge’s iconic wedding dress didn’t get off to a great start.

At the unveiling, the Queen was overheard calling the headless mannequin "creepy".

The gown has now no doubt secured the royal seal of approval after raising an estimated £10 million.

Kate’s stunning Alexander McQueen creation has been on display in Buckingham Palace since the end of July and has proved to be a great success.

It's drawn in a record number of visitors, with more than 600,000 paying to re-live the magic of the historic wedding.

Money raised from the exhibit will go to a charity set up by her and Prince William.

After its time in the spotlight, the dress will be moved to a more low key location so that it can be preserved.

The exact amount of money raised has yet to be confirmed by Palace officials, but the figure has been calculated based on ticket sales over the summer period.
