Gerard Depardieu given Russian passport

French actor Gerard Depardieu has been given a Russian passport after dining with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The pair shared a late-night meal in the President's residence in Sochi, Russia, which will be the host city for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Gerard decided to procure the passport when it was revealed that a 75% super tax would be imposed on milllionaires in France, whereas the rate remains a low 13 % in Russia.

The actor has also relocated to Nechin in Belgium, and declared in an open letter that he left because the government "considers that success, creation, talent ... should be sanctioned".
