Royal Barge stripped down following Jubilee

Thursday June 7, 2012

WIth the splendour of this weekend's Diamond Jubilee a fading memory, the spectacular backdrops to the four-day extravaganza are returning to normality.

One of these, the Royal Barge which was lent to the Queen for the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant, is now being stripped of its majestic decor.

The Spirit of Chartwell was decorated for the event with sumtous gold leaf trimmings, tapestries, a red carpet and a specially made throne for the monarch and her husband Prince Philip.

There are reports that some of the intricate designs which adorned the boat will be put on display in the Museum of London Docklands.

The owners of the vessel have said that the boat, which is usually used as a cruiser for fee-paying passengers, will be back in action as of June 16.
