Injured UK soldiers from the charity Walking With The Wounded have called off an expedition to the summit of Mount Everest due to safety fears.
Prince Harry is patron of the organisation, and even took part in a walk himself to the North Pole in 2011.
But hopes for this year's trip were dashed after warm weather increased the risk of avalanches.
Organiser Martin Hewitt said he was "gutted", but that carrying on would cause “serious injury and potential loss of life".
Harry is passionate about using his international profile to raise awareness for wounded war veterans.
The young royal told of the group's frustrated attempt as he collected a humanitarian award in Washington on Monday.
Despite the setback, he said: "The mere fact that they are up there on that fearsome peak, I find totally amazing."
