The tragic miscarriage of her baby son at seven months into her pregnancy was devastating.
But Amanda Holden has proved her strength and resilient spirit as she prepares for the start of rehearsals for her part as Princess Fiona in the West End musical Shrek.
The star spoke to the Daily Mail candidly about how those closest to her helped her through her difficult times.
"To be honest, just being at home with friends and family is the best tonic, the best therapy. I'm doing lots of that," said the 40-year-old.
Amanda also revealed why she is happy to play the part of Fiona: "I wanted to do Fiona because she’s so funny, so spiteful and she’s not a whoopee Cinderella who can’t do anything for herself.
"She doesn’t really need to be rescued."
The princess is Amanda's five-year-old daughter Lexi's favourite animated character and the star said of her daughter: "She's the perfect audience - and my biggest critic."
The show will run on Drury Lane from May 6.
