'Corrie' star Maggie Jones 'improving' after major op

Award-winning soap actress Maggie Jones is said to be "improving" in hospital after having a "major operation" this week.

The 75-year-old, who plays battleaxe Blanche Hunt in the series, was taken "seriously ill" with an undisclosed condition.

"She seems to have turned a corner. There has been an improvement in Maggie's condition and we are all encouraged by this news," a Granada TV spokesperson says.

And although she has been temporarily written out of the soap, Maggie's co-stars are willing her to get back to work.

"Maggie is a delight. We sit and laugh together," says actor Bill Tarmey, the show's Jack Duckworth.

"I need her to get better or I will be sitting on my own."
