'Dad's Army' remake to hit cinemas

Dad's Army will be brought back to life on the big screen.

The show's co-writer, Jimmy Perry, revealed to members of the Dad's Army official fan club that a film version of the hit comedy has been put into works.

The studio behind the project have hinted that they want the lead role of the pompous commander Captain Mainwaring to go to a woman, according to The Independent.

The original run of the series, which ran from 1968 to 1977, did have one film spin off in 1971.

Clive Dunn, who played Corporal Jones in the sitcom, died last week at the age of 92.
