Olympic heroes party in their home towns

The Olympic athletes who won medals have been given a heroes' welcome on their return home.

The biggest parties have taken place in Leeds, Yorkshire.

If the county had competed independently of the UK, it would have finished 12th on the medal-winners' table.

5,000-strong crowds were waiting to welcome their heroes, including Triathlon stars Jonny and Alistair Brownlee, pictured, cyclist Lizzie Armitstead and boxer Nicola Adams.

Triathlete Alistair described the experience as "absolutely amazing".
