American singer-songwriter Neil Diamond will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year.
Alongside acts including Alice Cooper and Tom Waits, the 69-year-old performer will be honoured in a special ceremony taking place in New York on March 14.
The Sweet Caroline singer told the BBC he thought in the past he may be nominated "but I kind of figured they'd get around to me at some point."
He jokingly added: "I'm glad they did it before I'm dead."
Rock star Alice, 62, whose hits include School's Out and Poison, said it had been "a waiting game", adding: "I think what we did was we kind of brought theatre to rock 'n' roll."
