Ex-senator denies trying to blackmail John Travolta

A former Bahamas senator has denied attempting to blackmail John Travolta over the death of his teenage son Jett.

Pleasant Bridgewater is accused of trying to negotiate a £15m payout for paramedic Tarino Lightbourne, who John claimed was intending to sell stories to the press suggesting the Hollywood star was at fault.

She told jurors she was framed by the actor's lawyers, and said: "I maintain my innocence."

A Bahamas detective this week testified that Ms Bridgewater destroyed an important document relating to the case.

Both the ex-senator and Mr Lightbourne have pleaded not guilty to extortion.
