Tributes pour in for former 'Coronation Street' star

Tributes have poured in for former Coronation Street cast member Sophiya Haque, who has died aged 41.

The actress, who was performing in the West End up until Christmas, passed away on Wednesday only weeks after being diagnosed with cancer.

Sophiya played Rovers Return barmaid Poppy Morales between December 2008 and June 2009.

Coronation Street stars, such as Antony Cotton, who plays Sean Tully, tweeted their condolences and shock: "Just on set and heard the news about Sophiya Haque. So sad. Night night kiddo x".

Michael Le Vell, who plays Kevin Webster, added: "No way just heard about sophiya haque so sad. My heart goes out to the family."

A Coronation Street spokesperson said: "We are saddened to hear the terrible news of Sophiya's death. She was a vibrant and beautiful actress who was a pleasure to have around during her time on Coronation Street. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this very sad time."

Stuart Piper, of her agents Cole Kitchenn, said: "She was the kind of person you always want to spend time with: full of light, warmth, compassion, care and with an infectiously wicked sense of humour, and I loved every minute of working with her.

"I am so desperately sad that she has been lost to the world at such a tragically young age, but feel blessed to have known her. Our whole team miss her greatly."
