The family of a nine-year-old cancer patient who received a letter from the Duchess of Cambridge have said they are "deeply touched" by the gesture.
During a visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital last month, Kate forged a bond with leukemia sufferer, Fabian Bate.
The royal initially promised to post on his blog, but went one step further by writing to him personally.
"I very much enjoyed meeting you at the Royal Marsden Hospital last month," she said.
"I was so touched by your strength of character and delighted to hear the news that one of your big sisters will be able to donate bone marrow to you later this year.
"I left the Royal Marsden assured by how incredibly talented, kind and clever the team at the hospital are.
"Combined with your belief and positive energy, you couldn’t be in better hands."
Kate’s personal touch is all the more poignant given that the hospital is very close to her husband's heart.
William has been President of the hospital since 1997 and his late mother, Princess Diana, toured its wards on her first solo engagement back in 1982.
