Gary Barlow honoured with prestigious music award

Thursday July 19, 2012

Gary Barlow is to be celebrated with an honorary award from the music business.

The singer-songwriter is to receive the annual Music Industry Trusts Award and will attend a charity dinner to recognise his musical contribution over the past two decades.

It comes just weeks after the Take That star organised the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert outside Buckingham Palace and went on to be awarded with an OBE in the Birthday Honours.

The X Factor judge also co-wrote and coordinated the recording of the chart-topping Jubilee song, Sing

Previous winners of the esteemed MIT Award have included Sir Elton John, Sir Tom Jones and Kylie Minogue and Gary also follows in the footsteps of last year's winner Jools Holland.

The 21st annual MIT dinner on November 5 will benefit music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins and the Brit Trust.

David Munns, chairman of the award committee, said of Gary: "He is one of the UK's most accomplished artists - a unique musician, songwriter and producer who embodies both success and distinction, and who serves as a dedicated ambassador for many charities.

"I can't think of another artist who works with both Simon Cowell and Her Majesty The Queen."

Last year's event featured a video message from the Prince Of Wales who praised Jools' work.
