Star Trek legend Leonard Nimoy announces retirement

Star Trek fans across the globe are in mourning after the announcement of Leonard Nimoy's retirement.

At 79 years old, Leonard has finally had enough of his career as Mr Spock, the world's most fascinating alien.

The veteran actor has announced that his six-decade acting career is over, killing off hopes that he may return to the big screen as the pointy-eared Vulcan in 2012.

"Since Star Trek began in 1966, I've never had to worry about where the next job was," he told the Toronto Sun.

"I love the idea of going out on a positive note. I've had a great, great time."
