One of Britain's finest actors, Sir Ian McKellen has been recognised at this year's San Sebastian Film Festival for his years of dedication to the art.
Famous for his fantasy roles in Lord of the Rings and the X Men series, he has also starred in numerous Shakespearean stage productions and has garnered two Oscar nominations.
The British thesp, 71, said the Donostia Award was particularly important to him, "because it's not just for a character but for a career"
Asked to name the favourite role he has played, he said: "Usually I say my favourite character is the one I'm doing at the moment. "But I'm not working at the moment so my favourite character is me." He also added though that he is a "big fan of Gandalf."
Ian now joins the illustrious ranks of Meryl Streep, Antonio Banderas, Woody Allen and Robert De Niro, all of whom have received the award in past years.
