People's wedding for Britain's royal couple

Wednesday November 24, 2010

Prince William's wedding to Kate Middleton on April 29 is set to be a celebration for the whole nation.

As well as street parties and a pop concert to celebrate the nuptials, Britain will also enjoy an extra bank holiday – which could mean an 11-day break for some.

With the wedding coming just after Easter, and with the May Day bank holiday the following Monday, there will be just three normal working days between April 22 and May 2.

Meanwhile, evoking memories of his mother, William is said to be intending to fill Westminster Abbey with members of the public, including children, volunteers and the homeless, in a special 'People's Royal Wedding'.

According to one courtier, heads of state will be invited but will not be the only important names on the guest list.

The Prince is said to also want familiar faces around him when he weds in the 2000-capacity church.

Among those likely to receive an invitation are teenagers from Centrepoint – last year the Prince showed his support for the homeless charity by spending a night on the streets of London.
