Bafta honours 'Newsround's John Craven

John Craven is to accept a special Bafta on behalf of Newsround to mark its 40th anniversary.

The pioneering BBC news programme - launched by the veteran presenter in 1972 - is to receive the Special Award at the British Academy Children's Awards this weekend.

It will recognise the show's "significant contribution" to children's TV since its launch.

John will accept the award, along with creator Edward Barnes and current presenter Ore Oduba, from BBC political editor Nick Robinson, who is a former Newsround producer.

"Newsround
was the first show of its kind in the world and I'm deeply thankful to Bafta for recognising it as such,' said John.

"Newsround was and always will be my little baby and I couldn't be more proud of it now it's all grown up."

The award will be presented on Sunday at the London Hilton in Park Lane.
