Julie Andrews to make her return to the London stage

Julie Andrews to make her return to the London stage

Dame Julie Andrews will appear on a UK stage for the first time in 30 years to perform a one-off concert it has been confirmed.

The 74-year-old will sing songs from her many screen and stage hits during the show, titled In An Evening With Julie Andrews, at London's O2 arena on May 8.

She will also read from the children's book, Simeon's Gift, which she wrote with her daughter, and will star alongside an ensemble of performers and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Julie has rarely sung in public since throat surgery in 1997 which impaired her voice – she received an undisclosed settlement from the hospital in 2000.

"To perform once again in my homeland on the London stage will be a wonderful moment – where it all began for me," the Surrey-born star said.

"I am so excited to be able to share a brand new work with audiences."
