The Queen embraces tradition in Abu Dhabi

Fresh from the excitement of her grandson’s wedding announcement, Queen Elizabeth II touched down in Abu Dhabi on a five-day state visit to the region.

And she wasn't just welcomed by officials from the Gulf state.

Her son Prince Andrew – who had arrived earlier – was also on hand at the airport.

Speaking of the royal wedding announcement he told reporters: "I'm aware that the UK has taken Kate to their heart. I think that's absolutely wonderful news.

"I understand the wedding is going to take place over a bank holiday weekend so it's another excuse for a good party," he added.

First stop on the official visit for the Queen was a trip to Abu Dhabi’s Great Mosque.

Dressed appropriately for the visit in a gold crystal-embroidered coat and matching scarf to cover her head, the Queen entered the mosque without her shoes as tradition dictates.
