He was accompanied by the US Ryder Cup team, but Tiger Woods cut a solitary figure as he arrived in Cardiff this week.
While the majority of his teammates have been joined by their wives and girlfriends, the recently divorced 34-year-old has made the trip on his own.
And his new single status came to the fore when the party posed on the plane's ramp – Tiger, without a travelling companion, was left to stand on a step at the front of the group.
It has been one month since the sportsman's divorce from Elin Nordegren was finalised.
The couple – parents to Sam, three, and one-year-old Charlie - split as a result of Tiger's infidelities.
While he might have had to travel on his own to the tournament, Tiger did receive a warm welcome upon his arrival.
European captain Colin Montgomerie said: "I'm delighted to see Tiger here. We welcome him with open arms.
"I've always said that he is the best player in the world, and in my opinion the best player that has ever played the game.
"It’s the first time he will have played golf in Wales as a professional, and we just look forward to seeing him play."
