The Queen 'at home' as she touches down in Canada

Tuesday June 29, 2010

The Queen and Prince Philip arrived in Nova Scotia on Monday, marking the start of a nine-day visit to Canada.

The royal couple were greeted by hundreds of supporters who braved the rain to greet the monarch on her 22nd official trip to the country.

"As Queen of Canada for nearly six decades, my pride in this country remains undimmed," the 84-year-old monarch told the crowd.

"Thank you again for your welcome. It is very good to be home."

Later in the day, the Queen and the duke met with Mi'kmaq Native Americans, who are celebrating the 400-year anniversary of their Grand Chief Henri Membertou's Catholic baptism.

During the tour, the pair will travel to Ottawa for Canada Day, as well as to Winnipeg, Waterloo and Toronto.
