'Digital deaths' of Kim Kardashian and Lady Gaga

'Digital deaths' of Kim Kardashian and Lady Gaga

Social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter have become essential as a way of keeping celebs and their fans connected.

And so Alicia Keys' idea of raising money for World AIDS Day on Tuesday is sure to have a big impact.

The initiative, called Digital Life Sacrifice, will see stars such as Kim Kardashian, Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga signing out indefinitely from their Facebook and Twitter accounts.

They won't log in again until $1 million has been raised for Alicia's Keep A Child Alive charity.

Some have filmed 'last tweet and testament videos', appearing in ads showing them in coffins to represent their digital 'deaths' (Kim, pictured).

Alicia has high hopes the move will be a success - Lady Gaga has more than 7 million Twitter followers who will surely be keen for the pop sensation to return.
