Renowned actor Javier Bardem is the toast of the movie industry after his film The Sea Inside swept the board at Spain's Goya Awards. But although there is little doubt about the 35-year-old's talent as an actor, there seems to be some question with regard to his dancing skills, because he is being sued by a woman who claims he broke her nose during some over-enthusiastic boogying.
The row stems from an incident in New York's Gypsy Tea nightclub after the US premiere of his latest flick. Javier was strutting his stuff on the dancefloor when he allegedly collided with the plaintiff, Jill Marshall.
The former model, who is also suing the venue for serving alcohol to the actor "while in a state of intoxication", says she has had trouble breathing ever since the fracas and is going to need surgery. "It was an accident, but he was wildly out of control and when you injure someone, you have to take responsibility," she said. "I am in a lot of pain."
Lawyers representing Javier insist the dancefloor mishap was her own fault, though. According to attorney Martin Singer, Ms Marshall made repeated attempts to dance with the performer, despite his polite rejections, and her perseverance eventually resulted in a collision. "He is an excellent dancer," explained the legal eagle. "I'm not going to comment on the woman's dancing abilities. However, to the extent the woman was injured while she was dancing, it was caused by her own conduct." |
