Renee, Kelly and Duffy create a red alert in time for Valentine's Day

13 FEBRUARY 2009
After the parade of classic black gowns which marked this awards seasons, this week the leading ladies of stage and screen were being rather more daring, opting for sizzling shades of scarlet.

Renee Zellweger, Kelly Brook and Duffy led the way in the run-up to Valentine's Day, all donning pillar-box hues for recent events.

While the two actresses went for a cocktail hour look in mid-length numbers, the Welsh songstress' take on the hot shade was more sultry diva. Performing in California, Duffy wore a sexy mini-dress, creating maximum impact with tousled hair and smoky eye makeup.

Her fellow music goddesses Beyonce and Solange Knowles also joined the crimson brigade - the Dream girls actress in a one shoulder floor-length affair, while her little sister kept it short and sweet.

It was Sharon Stone, who started this week's romance with red in a super slinky strapless creation by John Galliano that almost upstaged the winners at the Baftas.

The Basic Instinct star got a run for her money at the ceremony from Czech beauty Karolina Kurkova, though, resplendent in split-to-the-thigh Escada.
